CAREY, John
Retired, he was born 5 Jan 1806 in Washington Co., PA. In 1832 he came to Ohio, in 1854 to Jasper Co., IA. He owns 385 acres of land in this county, also property in the city. He married Mary MCCAREL in 1827. She was born in July 1805 in Brooke Co., VA. They had seven children, two living--William T., and Newton J. His son J. W. enlisted in the 2nd Iowa Battery, and died in Memphis, TN of a disease contracted in the Army. Newton J. also served in the war. He enlisted in Wisconsin.
