BUMP, Josiah Pettengill
Sec. 22; P. O. Lynnville; born in Crawford Co., Penn., Dec. 26, 1819; moved to Chautauqua Co., N. Y., with parents in 1827, to Lake Co., Ohio, in 1845, and to Will Co., Ill., in 1839; here he remained till the Fall of 1840, and went to Louisiana, where he stayed two years and returned to Meigs Co., Ohio, where he married Narcissa WHITLOCK, June 8, 1845; she was born in Salisbury Township, Meigs Co., August 16, 1824; after marriage, they resided in that county nine years, and in 1854, moved to this county, settling where he now lives, entering the land, then open prairie, and built a log cabin, sixteen feet square, in which they lived five years, but has now given place to a fine and substantial residence. A switch that Mr. B. used to drive his team a few miles, after coming here he planted, and it now stands near the house, a giant tree, upward of ten feet in circumference, two feet from the ground; has on his farm a very fine orchard of 500 apple trees, besides many cherry and plum trees; owns 160 acres of prairie and twenty acres of timber, valued at $5,000. Their children are Horace, resides in this township; Fanny, now Mrs. WELLS, resides in Mahaska County; Martha, now Mrs. SWISHER, resides in Adair County; Narcissa, now Mrs. SWAN, resides in this township; Wm.
