Roger Owens Honorably Discharged From Army

Valeria:Sgt. Roger W. Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Owens, returned home after being overseas for 34 months, and has an honorable discharge with 117 points. He has eight campaign ribbons. a Presidential Unit Citation and General DeGaulle's Croix de Guerre for his outfit for historic work around Colmar.
Owens, entered the army July 19, 1941, and received most of his training on the west coast. In Sept, 1942, he was shipped to Camp Pickett, VA, then to Norfolk, VA. and then landed in Casablanca, Nov 8 1942. He saw action all along northern Africa, Bizerte, Tunisia, Messina, Sicily and from Anzio beachhead on upto Rome. From Rome, he went to Toulson, France and from there he chased the Jerries north to Colmar.
He was at Strasburg and St. Die France, where he had his office in a Chateau of Our Lady.
His outfit helped capture Salzburg and Hitler's hideout.
Sergeant Owens was returned to the United States, Aug 12, by plane by way of Africa and South America, receiving his discharge at Ft.Sheridan Ill., Aug 18.
