TOWNSAND, N.
Firm of Townsand Bros. & Co., harness and saddlery, northeast corner public square. He was born 23 Mar 1843 in Sussex Co., N. J. and in 1849 went to Niagara Co., NY. In 1857 he came to Newton, Iowa and in 1861 they commenced their present business. He enlisted in 1862 in Co C, 22nd I. V. I. and served to the close of the war. He participated in the battles of Port Gibson, MS, Champion Hills, Black River Bridge, siege of Vicksburg, thence the taking of Jackson, MS, and others. He had charge of the 2nd Brigade Ambulance Corps of Carr's Division, and is now Colonel of the 3rd I. N. G. He married Ellen M. ROGERS, 30 Jun 1867. She was born 22 Apr 1846 in Indiana.
