Lamb, John R.,
farmer, Sec. 26; owns 144 acres, worth $8,500; was born in Randolph Co., N. C., July 23, 1829; moved with parents to Highland Co., Ohio in 1831, where, in a short time, his father died in the 33d year of his age; moved in 1833 to Hendricks Co., Ind., where he remained till the Fall of 1851, and moved to this county, settling in this township, in the Spring of 1852, he moved to Newton village, then a little hamlet of less than two dozen houses, and in June 1855, moved to where he now resides. Married Mary J. Beard in Hendricks Co., Ind., Dec. 5, 1850; she was born in Highland Co., Ohio, May 14, 1826; they have no children of their own, but have raised seven orphans. John K. Newton, a nephew of Mr. Lamb, has been reared by him since his 7th year; is the son of Harrison and Elizabeth Newton, the former now residing in Sherman Tp., this county, but the latter has been dead for many years. ~ "Newton Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
