STAHL, John
Blacksmith Shop, on Front st., Colfax; res. Wseton Addition; born in Pennsylvania in 1843; came to Iowa in 1870, and to Jasper Co. in 1877. Owns shop and contents. Married Florence A. DYER in 1863; she was born in Pennsylvania in 1844. They have three children - dgar [sic-Edgar] W., J. Haller and Nora A. Republian in politics. Was City Marshal of Liscomb; member of I. O. O. F. Lodge, No. 242, Liscomb, Iowa. Has filled every office in the Lodge. Enlisted in 34th Illinois V. I. in 1862; participated in Lookout Mountain, Mission Ridge, Stone River, Battle Creek, Ala.; with Sherman all through; wounded at Resaca Grove; re-enlisted in 1863; mustered out in 1865 at Louisville, Ky. ~ "Washington Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
