In 1876 he was nominated for Attorney General of the State on the Democratic ticket, which he won. Was chairman of the Democratic Convention in 1877. He is tall and commanding, and most genial in manners. ~ "Newton Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
