SCOTT, J. E.
Farmer and Stock Raiser; S. 9; P. O. Newton; born in Warrick Co., Indiana, March 22, 1842. Married Joanna GUILTNER. She was born in Indiana. They had three children - Nellie Jane, Cora and Hattie. Mrs. Scott died in 1874. Mr. Scott married for his second wife Mrs. Emma COOPER in Newton in 1875. She was born in Des Moines City, Iowa, Oct. 18, 1847; she had four children - Lowell, Thomas, Clark and Markett. Mr. and Mrs. Scott have since their marriage one child - Charles. He has 200 acres of land, valued at $35 per acre. Mr. S. has a good house, barn, orchard, small fruits, grove, etc. He came to Scott Co., Iowa in 1846; remained seven years, thence to Jasper Co. in 1853; located on his present farmin 1867. Mr. and Mrs. Scott are members of the M. E. Church, and he is a member of teh Good Templars. He has seventy-two head of cattle, seven horses; keeps thorough-bred short horn stock; 150 head of hogs; he raised 1,200 bushels of wheat in one season. Mr. Marcus COOPER, Mrs. Scott's first husband, was in the late war four years; lost his health by being in the army, and died seven years after the war closed.
