EMERSON, A. K.
Farmer, Breeder, and Dealer in fine short-horn stock, Poland China hogs and Bashaw horses; owns a large stock farm with good improvements, in Sec. 27, Malaka Tp., and lives in Newton. He married Lizzie A. SKIFF in Jasper Co., Iowa in 1857. She was born in New York in 1837. They have one child - May. He has 440 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. Mr. Emerson moved to Illinois in 1851; remained three years; thence to Newton, where he has engaged in the mercantile business, keeping a general store, several years; was engaged in the clothing business eleven years in Chicago, fron 1867 to 1878. He bought his present farm in 1870, built a large house and barn and set out groves, orchards, etc. He makes a specialty of breeding and selling fine short-horn cattle, Poland-China hogs and Bashaw horses. Mr. Emerson is a member of teh A., F. & A. M. Lodge at Newton, and Mrs. E. is a ~ "Malaka Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)member of the Congregational Church at Newton.
