Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 1; P. O. Newton; born in Jefferson Co., Penn., Jan. 21, 1847. Married Kisiah MEALMAN in Illinois, Dec. 22, 1870; she was born in Illinois in 1848; they have three children - James, Nettie (born in Illinois) and Bertha (born in Iowa); he moved to Henry Co., Ill., and thence to Jasper Co., Ill., in 1876; he followed lumbering in Pennsylvania and farming in Illinois; has 160 acres of good land, valued at $28 per acre; he has two acres of orchard, a grove and a good improved farm. ~ " Independence Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
