PERIN, Henry I.
Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 16; P. O. Baxter; born in La Fayette Co., Indiana, July 4, 1843. Married Almira PORTER in Iowa, 1868; she was born in Scott Co., Iowa, in 1854; they have three children - William, born March 22, 1869; James, born January 1, 1873; Harvey, born Sept. 24, 1877. Has 103 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. He moved to Iowa in 1845. He enlisted in August, 1862, Co. K, 23d I. V. I.; was in the battles of Mobile, Redford, Vicksburg, Old Town, Fort Gibson, Champion Hills, Black River, Landing near Vicksburg, and the Red River Expedition, Fort Eperansia, and several small battles and skirmishes; was discharged with his regiment at the close of the war; spent two years traveling, etc. Located on the present farm in 1868; set out an orchard, has a nice grove, good buildings, and ninety head of fat hogs, and all the appearances of prosperity and comfort. ~ " Independence Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
