HERTZOG, G. W.
Mayor of Monroe. He was born in Fayette Co., PA in 1822. When he was 26 he was licensed minister of the Baptist Church and followed ministerial duties in PA, MD, VA. He was ordained in Greene Co., PA in 1851. In 1869 he came West settling in this city, and has pastoral charge of the Baptist Church until 1875. Since this time he has been Pastor of the Church at Ashland, Wapello Co., two years, and at Otley, Marion Co., since Jan 1878. He was elected Justice of the Peace in this place in 1876. He is also President of the School Board. He married Miss Elizabeth WILLARD in Fayette Co., PA in 1846, She was born in Meigs Co., OH. They have eight children---William who married Miss Marth SEALS, Lydia B., James P., George A., Gideon, Collins B., Henry C., and Libbie D.
