DOVE, S. P.
Farmer; Sec. 1; P. O. Galesburg; owns eighty acres, valued at $2,000; born in Logan CO., Ohio, in June, 1846; in 1858, he moved with parents to Marion Co., Iowa. Enlisted Aug. 21, 1861, in the 8th I. V. I., Co. H; was in the battles of Springfield, Shiloh and Corinth; at the latter place he was severely wounded, but recovered and joined his regiment, and was afterward engaged in many battles; he was discharged Jan. 10, 1864, and the same day re-enlisted in the same company and regiment, and was engaged in the battles of Jackson, Miss., siege of Vicksburg, capture of Mobile, etc.; was again wounded at Jackson, and laid four days in an old shanty, near the battle-field without attendance, but was at length rescued from death; he was discharged April 12, 1866. In 1865, he married Drusilla LIPPINCOTT in Bellefontaine, Ohio; in 1867, he moved to Tama Co., Iowa; in 1870, he moved to Nebraska and remained two years; he then went back to Logan Co., Ohio, where his wife died April 6, 1872; he then came to this county, remained a short time, went to Nebraska and sold his property there, and returned to Mahaska Co., and bought a farm near Granville, where he married Elizabeth J. LUCKEY June 29, 1873; she was born in Mahaska Co. Dec. 28, 1854; he has one daughter - Amelia I., and an adopted son named Alfred D.
