MINSHALL, John F., Esq.; Retired farmer; Sec. 2; P. O. Prairie City; born in Columbia Co., Pennsylvania; came to this county in 1853; has ninety-two acres of land, valued at $4,600. Held the office of Justice of the Peace for a number of years; belongs to the M. E. Church. Married Elizabeth ROSEBURY; she was born in New Jersey July 30, 1805; they have four living children-William Fletcher, Harvest J., Mary Ann and Sophia. Emigrated from Pennsylvania in 1837 to Richland Co., Ohio; lived there sixteen years; thence to Jasper Co., Iowa, where he has resided since; came through with teams; located on the land he now owns; at that time there was not a tree in four miles; there were only two families in Prairie City, and they lived in caves. Had one son in the army; William F. enlisted in Co. F, 4th Iowa V. C.; went in at the commencement of the war, and served four years; was in all the battles and skirmishes of the company. Mr. M. is one of the pioneers that came here among the earliest settlers. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 643
