LYONS, J. K.; Postmaster; Prairie City; born in Edenton, Clermont Co., Ohio, Dec. 14, 1842; came to this county in 1869. Politics, Republican. Was appointed in 1873 to the office of Postmaster. Enlisted in Co. G, 1st Ohio V. C.; was in the battles of Moulton, Ala., Dallas, Noonday Creek, Big Shanty, Bull Knob, Kenesaw Mountain, Roseville, Rough and Ready, Jonesboro, Monte Vallo, Ebenezer Church, Selma and Columbus; was discharged at Columbus, Ohio, on Sept., 1865. Mr. L. met with a serious accident; got his arm in the big belt of a steam threshing machine, breaking it three times, causing amputation. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 642
