DEAKIN, James E.; Farmer; Sec. 19; P. O. Vandalia; was born in Illinois Sept. 24, 1838, and came to this county in 1846; rents fifty acres of land. He is a member of the Baptist Church; Republican. His wife, Vianna M. HARTMAN, was born in Cooper Co., Mo., Oct. 4, 1843; they were married Nov. 19, 1862, and have four children - Annie L., born Jan. 7, 1864; Ella L., born Feb. 2, 1866; Mary L., born Sept. 29, 1868; Maggie May, born Sept. 15, 1875. Mr. DEAKIN enlisted on the 24th of Sept., 1861, in Co. E, 14th I. V. I., and was in the battles of Fort Donelson and Pittsburg Landing; was taken prisoner there, and paroled two months afterward. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 638
