CUSHMAN, Fayette; Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 12; P. O. Prairie City; was born in Barnstable CO., Mass., Nov. 18, 1824; came to this county in 1854; has eighty acres of land, valued at $4,000. Has held the office of Town Clerk and Assessor. Married S. F. KELLOGG; she was born in Rutland Co., Vt., Sept. 15, 1832; two children-G. B., born Oct. 27, 1858; Carrie M., born Dec. 1, 1861; emigrated from Massachusetts to Peoria Co., Ill., in 1848; lived there six years; thence to Jasper Co., Iowa; came through from Illinois with teams and was nine days making the trip; at that time Prairie City was not thought of. Mrs. CUSHMAN is cousin to Pitt KELLOGG, Ex-Governor of Louisiana. Has hauled wheat from here to Oskaloosa, and sold it for 44 cents a bushel; moved into a little shanty 16 x 16; down by the grove, with two families besides his own, nine persons in all, where they lived six weeks, until he built a shanty on his own land; the occupants were C. C. KELLOGG, D. C. KELLOGG, with families, and himself and family. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 638
