MEANS in Iowa

I am looking for info on Joseph MEANS in Jackson County, Iowa between the years of 1849 and 1865. Joseph MEANS was born 10-20-1824 in Pennsylvania. He is on the 1850 census with son Hugh and James (a brother or cousin, perhaps). No wife is listed in that year. I believe his first wife died in, or shortly after, childbirth. He married Jennett Cox - year unknown. His other children were George L, Joseph, John William, Franklin H (my great grandfather), Alpheus (Albert), and Sarah.

I'm looking for any information I can get but very interested in finding out who Joseph's parents and siblings were, who his first wife was, and what year he married Jennett Cox.
