I am seeking information on John Ingles' family. John Ingles was murdered in 1857 by Alexander Grifford, who was supposedly paid by Henry Jarret and David McDonald. John was listed on the Iowa State Census in 1856 as being 35 years old, wife Martha (32), son Jerome (9), daughter Jane (6). Also living in the house was William Long (21) and Calvin Catler (Cutler?)(61). Information in history books said that Martha was so destitute after John's murder that the children were farmed out to other households to raise. Jerome was sent to live with Captain Sheffield (documented in the 1860 census also). I am descended from Jerome and am seeking information regarding John's history(parents, etc), and what happened to Martha and Jane. Jerome always said that he was from Buffalo, NY.
