Hi, thanks for your input. I too found Hilary Davis from 1880 on - it is just the time before the 1880 census that has me puzzled. Death cert. says born in Jackson Co and father born PA, but I can find nothing in 1860 and 1870 census records. He was born in 1853, so I am hoping that maybe the 1856 Iowa State Census will turn up something. Has to be something out there someplace!
