Aug. 18, 1921--Monticello (IA) Express...

"The community was shocked Friday morning when the sad news went forth of the death of Mrs. David Carry of East Cascade, who passed away [Aug. 11, 1921], at an early hour at the family residence, after an attack of apoplexy. Mrs. Carry had retired in her usual good health and had finished a hard day's work, and had also went down town to attend to some shopping. At an early hour Friday morning, Mr. Carry heard the cries of the baby who was sleeping with the mother in another apartment, and went to see about them, and to his horror found his wife unconscious, and the little child standing by her side crying. The mother passed away a few moments later without regaining consciousness. Mrs. Carry was born in LaMotte about 47 years ago. Her maiden name was Catherine Maher. She was married to David Carry at Maquoketa, Iowa, 29 years ago, and for the past ten years they have been residents of Cascade. Mrs. Carry was a woman whose every thought and care were for her husband and children. She raised a large family, 13 in number, and did for them in every way the most that could be done. The husband has lost a most faithful wife and the children a dutiful and loving mother. The heartfelt sympathy goes out to the bereaved father and motherless children who so badly need her care. The funeral took place at St. Martin's Church, Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. A large concourse of sorrowing friends followed her to her resting place. Those left to mourn her sad departure are her husband, David Carry, and the following children: Howard, Fred, and Mrs. Jos. Winans [Marguerite] of Marion, Iowa; John and Robert of Cedar Rapids; Martha, Mary, Lucille, Rosella, Ella, Catherine, Gladys, and James at home. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Wm. Maher [Martha Kennedy Kolb/Culp]; sisters: Mrs. Bert O'Brien [Margaret Jane Meagher] and Mrs. Ray Jones [Mary Anne Meagher] of Chicago; brothers, James Maher of Kansas City, and Edward of Harriett, South Dakota."

[note:"Harriett, South Dakota" may be Herriod in Campbell County, SD?]

Mrs. David Cairy was Catherine "Kate" Meagher, the daughter of William Meagher/Mahar and Martha Kennedy Kolb/Culp.
