In Response To: Lost O'Brien tombstone (LuAnn (Wentworth) Goeke)

There was a J. O'BRIEN, schoolteacher, in Prairie Creek Twp of Dubuque County (just above Jackson County) in 1880 census. Since the death date is known, search newspapers for an obituary which might tell the cemetery where the O'BRIEN burial was
made. I understand the Maquoketa newspapers are on microfilm at the local library. Good Luck.
How do you know that the person was a male if you only have an initial for the first name?
