FULLER - Civil War - Women volunteers

FULLER, PEABODY, HATFIELD

Hi! I am putting together some short biographies of various female ancestors for my niece, so she can "know" her grandmothers. In researching my great x 4 grandmother Maria Peabody Fuller I came across a reference that she was a Red Cross Volunteer during the Civil War. Since the Red Cross didn't exist in the US until a few decades later, this wouldn't be possible. However, I would be interested to know what women's organisations did exist in Jackson County and what activities Maria might have been involved with. As an aside, if anyone else is researching the Fullers or the Hatfields, please contact me! thanks so much, AL
