Obituary of Mrs. Nancy Morehead

Nancy Thomas, daughter of John and Martha Thomas, was born near Maquoketa Jan. 30, 1854, and departed this life at her home Jan. 4, 1924, being 69 years, 11 months and 4 days of age.

On July 3, 1870, she was united in marriage with Henry Morehead. To this union ten children were born, Dell, Clarence, Melvin, Cora, Alice and Lutie at home, and Mrs. Effie Wilcox, Mrs. Blanche Henry and Mrs. Minnie Wilcox, one having died in infancy.

She leaves to mourn their loss nine children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two sisters, Myra Morehead of Baldwin, Mrs. Maggie Eldredge of Paris, Ill.; two briothers, H. E. Thomas of Galva, Ia., and Eli Thomas of Terrill, Ia. and other relatives, friends and neighbors. Her husband preceded her to the other world Feb. 15, 1896.

Mrs. Morehead was converted years ago and joined the Free Methodist church under the labor of Rev. W. C. Thompson and remained a faithful member until her death.

Mrs. Morehead loved her home and family in a marked degree, always ready to sacrifice for their welfare and comfort.

She and her husband were pioneers, having moved to their farm over 53 years ago, when it was practically a wilderness. Truly, in the passing of Mrs. Morehead, the family have lost a kind, devoted and loving mother, the community a true, faithful neighbor and the church a devoted earnest member.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Jan. 6, at 2 o'clock, and interment in the Pence cemetery, Rev. W. H. McDonald officiating.
