DIED
DeMoss.---At his home in this city Saturday morning, July 1, 1893, of paralysis, Mr. Wm. DeMoss aged 78 years, 5 months, 24 days.

Deceased was born in Licking county, Ohio, Jan. 7, 1815, and came to Iowa away back in 1845 and settled on land in Brandon township where he opened up a farm in what was then a forest. He was a man of kindly, jovial nature and always pleasant to his fellow man. In September 1880 he lost his wife and it was an irreparable loss to him. Since that time and up to 1891 he lived with his sons-in-law, Rev. Nathan Potter in Jones county and Mr. T. J. Houston in Brandon. In 1891 he bought a place in Maquoketa and with his daughter Miss Mary DeMoss moved to town where he resided to the day of his death. He had been for some time a sufferer from asthma and paralysis. He leaves three daughters and a number of grand-children to mourn the loss of a kind father. The funeral occurred at Hickory Grove on Monday and was largely attended by relatives and sympathizing friends. Rev. John Said preached the funeral sermon.
