Died.

Lewis Miller Wood was born in Ticonderoga, New York, July 18th, 1816 and died at Maquoketa, Iowa, June 5th, 1907, at the ripe old age of 90 years, 10 months, 17 days.

Mr. Wood spent his young years in his native town. Was married to Sophia Bennett in 1837.

To this union were born four daughters, Mrs. Sarah S. Nickerson of this city, Mary E. Eaton of Ruthven, Iowa, Eva J. Wilcox of Sac City, Iowa, who survive him, and Julia, wife of S. M. Poll, died in 1869, his wife died in 1897.

In 1855 Mr. Wood came to Iowa and the first summer lived near Buckhorn and then came to Pinhook to manage the saw mill owned by Stimson, Wilson, Poll and Nickerson, and served in that capacity twenty-seven years. He occupied the log house at Pinhook at first and in 1859 built the house now occupied by the family of the late George Earl and lived there until 1865 when he purchased and moved to the home occupied by him at his death. Since his wife’s death he has lived at times with his children, but his heart was always in his old home, so he returned to it to spend his last days in contentment surrounded by sweet memories of the past and his flowers of which he was especially fond. Mr. Wood was a great lover of home and his children will ever cherish his memory for his loving and kind indulgence to them and feel they have lost a kind and true friend.

Funeral was held at his late home on Friday at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. D. F. Boomershine. Interment in the Mt. Hope cemetery.
