Nancy E. Bellmore

MAQUOKETA — Nancy E. Bellmore, 74, of Maquoketa, died Thursday at her home.

There will be a celebration of her life at 7 p.m. today at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa with the Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating. There will be a memorial visitation from 4 p.m. until the service time today at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

She was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Baldwin to Lloyd W. and Ida Mae French Scott. She married William D. Jones in August 1952 in Dubuque. He preceded her in death. She then married R. James “Jim” Bellmore in 1971 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She was a Baldwin High School graduate. She attended the University of Dubuque and the Jane Lamb School of Nursing receiving a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

She was a school nurse for Maquoketa schools for more than 20 years. She also worked as a nurse with the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa Care Center, Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue and with Dr. Clay Risser in Maquoketa.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church, both in Maquoketa, where she served as past youth director. She also was a member of the National Nursing Association and Jane Lamb Sorority.

Survivors include her husband; five children, Mrs. Mary (Don) Swett of Woodland, Wash., Mrs. Carolyn (Gerald) Laughlin of Maquoketa, Mrs. Melanie (Robert) Laughlin of Maquoketa, Mrs. Jody (John) Unmuth of Menasha, Wis., and Mrs. Julie (Alan) Blankenship of Oklahoma City; one brother, Jack Lloyd Scott of Las Vegas; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A Nancy E. Bellmore Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and three grandchildren.
