Linda Sue McMurray, 57, of rural Maquoketa, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, Iowa, with Pastor Gaylor Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Burial will be in the Andrew Cemetery, Andrew, Iowa.
Linda Sue Travis was born on April 14, 1948, in Dubuque, to James Travis and Marcie (Engling) Travis. She was a Dubuque Senior High School graduate and received an Associate of Arts degree from Clinton Community College, Clinton, Iowa, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University. She married Thomas Paisley on Nov. 27, 1965, in Dubuque. She then married Larry McMurray on June 5, 1993, in Andrew.
Linda first worked for Eastern Iowa Community College as a social worker for five years and then for Women's Health Services in Clinton as a social worker for over 10 years. She also was a co-founder of Knot Enough Thyme in Maquoketa and currently, she was working for Paisley Consulting.
Linda was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, Friends of the Library in Maquoketa, Clinton Child Abuse Council, and the Otter Creek Bunco Club. She also was a member of the Clinton County Interagency having served on its board.
Linda loved photography and was an avid reader and gardener. She also enjoyed oil painting, music, and dancing. Her family was especially important to her.
Linda is survived by her husband, Larry McMurray, of rural Maquoketa; her mother, Marcie Travis, of Dubuque; children, Stacey (Mrs. Tim) Welu, of South Haven, Minn., Stephanie (Mrs. Billy) Dean, of Nashville, Tenn., and Shelby (Mrs. Tony) Bellomio, of Tallahassee, Fla.; step-children, Amy McMurray, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Angie (Mrs. Steve) Neville, of Bondurant, Iowa, and Ann (Mrs. Joe) Gile, of Epworth, Iowa; nine grandchildren; sisters, Debbie (Mrs. Steve) Simon, of Dubuque, Chris (Mrs. Tom) Coulson, of Cuba City, Wis., Pam (Mrs. Dave) Krieg, of Sherrill, Iowa, and Vickie (Mrs. Mike) Sawvell, of Dubuque; brothers, Steve (Angie) Travis, and Dave Travis, all of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother in infancy.
A Linda Sue McMurray Memorial Fund has been established. Published in the Quad-City Times on 10/2/2005
