Funeral services to Celebrate the Life of Orville A. Korthaus, 82, of Maquoketa, Iowa, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in the All Faith Chapel at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Pastor Gerald Gjerde will officiate. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military rites provided by Davenport American Legion Post No. 26. The family will greet friends for visitation one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Mr. Korthaus died on Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, following an extended illness.
Orville Albert Korthaus was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Stockton, Iowa, a son of Theodore and Rosa (Alpen) Korthaus. He was united in marriage to Ruby A. Wendel. He later married Leora Randolph in 1985. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2005.
Orville proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater, and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received. He had been an entrepreneur and had various business interests, as well as having farmed in the Solon, Iowa, area.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion; D.A.V. and a member of First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Connie (Fred) Crawford, Waukee, Iowa, Candy Korthaus (Larry), Andalusia, Ill., Chris (Tom) Sellers, Ada, Okla., and Matt (Jane) Korthaus, Long Grove, Iowa; four step-children; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Leora, a son, Steven B. Korthaus, grandson, Sgt. Bradley S. Korthaus, USMC, and sisters, Bernice Korthaus and Genny Wendel preceded him in death. May they rest in peace.
