Emmett George Peters, 67, of Sabula, Iowa, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Genesis Medical Center West, Davenport, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Sabula. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery, rural Sabula, Iowa. Pastor Robert Krueger of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, will officiate. Military rites and flag presentation will be conducted by the Sabula-Miles Veterans of Foreign Wars #5234. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the funeral home.
Emmett was born April 18, 1938, in rural Sabula, to George Wilhelm and Elsie (Draper) Peters. He graduated from Miles High School, Class of 1955. On September 5, 1959, Emmett married Patricia Schultz in Clinton, Iowa. He served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Paratroopers.
Emmett worked for Dupont Corporation for 34 years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and just about anything that kept him outdoors, especially his Chocolate Labrador Retrievers.
Emmett will be deeply missed by his wife, Patricia; three sons, Don (Sue) Peters, of Camanche, Iowa, Sid (Shelby) Peters, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Brad (Pam) Peters, of Clinton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Joann, Brandi, Bridget, Shauna, Danielle, Maya, Jordan, Hannah, Michael and Cady; and one sister, Frances (Leonard) Koch.
Emmett is preceded in death by his parents, one son, George Wilhem, Jr., and one sister, Geraldine Weltz.
