Maquoketa, Ia. - Jerry Rutenbeck was born April 4, 1845 in Schleswig, Denmark. He came to America and in 1872 was married to Nellie Olsen at Charlotte. He came to Maquoketa and engaged in the lumber business and was soon joined by his wife. For a time they farmed where George Wendell now resides south of town. Then he went into the junk business for the remainder of his life. Two children were born to them, one dying in infancy and Claus of Davenport, who survives to mourn the death of a faithful, loving father.
