Death of Mrs. Griggs

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Edson Griggs were pained to learn last Saturday of the death of Mrs. Griggs, which occurred about 10 a.m. of that day at her home in Maquoketa. The following was taken from the Maquoketa Record.
"Mrs. Edson Griggs died Jan. 18, 1902, at her home in this city. Her maiden name was Lethie J. Spray, and she was born in Ozark, Iowa, April 23, 1869. Her marriage occurred April 23, 1890. An acute attack of la grippe before her marriage left her an invalid, and was the disease which, after little more than a decade of feebleness covering her whole married life, has brought her earthly career to an end, in her thirty-third year. She became a member of the M. E. church in Preston under the ministry of Rev. I. P. Bickford. Of necessity her life has been in the seclusion of home and upon a sick bed. In the society of friends, affectionately ministered to by her husband and leaning upon her Savior, she has descended the valley, to be exalted, we trust 'to be forever with the Lord.' Funeral services were conducted at the house by Rev. R. D. Parsons, and in Mt. Hope cemetery the casket containing her precious remains, covered with flowers, was laid to rest Jan. 20, 1902."

When the death of Mrs. Edson Griggs of Maquoketa, was announced here it cast a deep gloom over our town. Mrs. Griggs was so well known here and had scores of intimate friends. Their heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved husband.
