Deon A. DeWitt, 47, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

A public visitation with a gathering of family and friends celebrating Deon’s life will be held from 2 to 4 P.M. on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. The celebration will continue from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Eagles Club in Maquoketa. Cremation will follow the visitation and burial will be at a later date.

Deon Anthony DeWitt was born on March 6, 1975 in Muncie, Indiana. His parents were Sharon (Jester) and Jeffrey Doud. He grew up in Maquoketa and attended Maquoketa Schools. He married Shelly Williams in Maquoketa, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Addie, Justine and Devon. They divorced but always remained close and best of friends. He married Laura Farris in Zwingle, Iowa. They later divorced and always remained friends.

Deon was a hardworking man. He worked for many years at Connell Supply roofing company in Maquoketa, and as a truck driver. He spent the last several years as a self-employed contractor doing roofing and construction as well as handyman services.

Deon enjoyed riding his Harley, and fishing and camping at 6B’s Campground in Maquoketa. He especially loved talking about and spending time with his family.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Addie (Cody) Hoffpauir of Cedar Rapids, IA, Justine (Brandon) Meeks of Marion, IA, and Devon DeWitt of Cedar Rapids, IA; 4 grandchildren, Bash, Anna, Harmony and Malcolm; his mother, Sharon Doud of Maquoketa, IA; a brother, David (Jennifer) DeWitt of Maquoketa, IA; grandmother, Betty Cook of SC; and his girlfriend, Kristy White. He was preceded in death by his father Jeffrey Doud, a brother Tonny Jester and a sister Lana Henson.
