PRESTON EDITOR IS TO BE BURIED THIS AFTERNOON
(Special to the ADVERTISER)
Preston, Iowa, Sept 24 -- The funeral of Lou Black, for the past several (seven?) years editor of the Preston Times, and one of Preston's foremost citizens, will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with interment in the Preston cemetery.
The entire community was shocked and grieved Tuesday afternoon when the announcement went forth of the death of Mr. Black, he passing away that afternoon at 2:40 o'clock, after an illness of one month's duration, but which had not been considered serious only the last few days. The direct cause was uraemic poisoning, which developed as a result of kidney trouble and of a near collapse which Mr. Black suffered, four weeks ago on the occasion of a long drive by auto to his boyhood home in Indiana. Since his return home he realized that the arduous duties at the office would be too great a strain for him, and arrangements were then made for his sons, Elmo and Edwin, to take active charge of the paper. Mr. Black contented himself with such editorial work as he could take care of at home, his last article being a week ago when he described his visit to Lincoln's boyhood home. Sunday morning his illness became aggravated and soon thereafter he became delirious and remained so except for brief intervals up to the time of his death as above stated. Deceased was 58 years old and his had been a busy life from early youth despite the frailties of a constitution which could not keep pace with the mind which drove it. He will be missed in the community that he loved and that is the real standard by which the work of a man is best measured.
