James W. Mitchell was born in Maquoketa Nov. 4, 1853 and died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1920 at his home in this city after an illness of almost two years. He grew to manhood in this city where he resided all his life except for a few years spent in Oklahoma. He was a cooper by trade and for many years was the faithful and efficient employee of the Hurst company at Hurstville. He had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. He was united in marriage to Miss Harriet Bing to which union were born one son Edwin, and two daughters, Mrs. Scott Barker and Mrs. Clifford Miller all of this city. Mr. Mitchell was highly respected by all who knew him and his death will be regretted by a long list of friends. Short services were held from the Buchnes chapel Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. J. G. Morgan officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
