MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Services for James R. Sokol, 75, of Maquoketa, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Delmar, with military services by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75 and Maquoketa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3633 O'Connor-Regenwether.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Carson & Son Funeral Home, Maquoketa.

Mr. Sokol died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at his home.

He joined his father to form the law firm of Sokol and Sokol in 1951 and practiced law for more than 45 years.

He was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Maquoketa. He married Sherry Westcott in Galena, Ill.

During World War II, he served in the Navy. He received five Bronze Stars.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Debra DeRita, Cape Coral, Fla., Sherry Boehm, Davenport, and Robin Helzer, Holyoak, Calif.; sons, Scott, Joe and Chris, all of Maquoketa; six grandchildren; and brothers, Richard, Merritt Island, Fla., and Donald, Oakville, Calif.
