Monmouth--Emeline Marie Saunders was born July 5, 18?? in Trumble county, Ohio. She came to Iowa with her parents in 1841, her folks dying in about a month after their arrival. She lived two miles southwest of Maquoketa until her marriage to Silvanus Gibson, which occurred Feb. 25, 1854. The young couple settled in Monmouth shortly after their marriage, which continued to be her home until the death of her husband Nov. 3, 190? when she went to live with her son, Louis, on a farm near Monmouth where she lived until last October. Then she removed with her son to Cincinnatus, N.Y. where she finished her life work May 1, 1915. She was a devoted Christian having joined the United Brethren church in 18?? with her husband and continued a faithful member until the breaking up of the United Brethren church at Monmouth. She joined the M.E. church under the pastorate of Rev. Dove. She was the devoted mother of nine children of whom ?? have preceded her into the Great Beyond. She also adopted a brother's motherless child, giving it a faithful mother's care as long as it was in the home nest. Her life was spent in the devoted service of her family, no need of theirs going unsupplied if her faithful hands could supply it.
The funeral was held at the M.E. church Thursday, May 6 at 10 o'clock, Dr. C. L. Gould officiating. Mesdames Best and Kokemiller and Messrs Gould and Menold with Mrs. L. C. Hannahs organist furnished the music. The floral offerings were beautiful. Interment in the family lot of the Monmouth cemetery.
