Cascade Pioneer, published in Cascade, Iowa on Friday, May 3rd, 1895

That old and respected citizen of Garry Owen, Daniel Collins, died at the family residence in Butler Township, Jackson County, Tuesday, at 7:20 p.m., at the ripe age of 73 years.

He was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1822, and in 1851 came to the United States. For two years he was engaged in steam boating on the Mississippi River, and later for five years was employed in the Dickinson sash factory in Dubuque. In 1858 he removed to Butler Township where the remainders of his days were passed upon the farm and where death removed him from life’s activity, after an honest, upright and useful career.

Of his family his wife and six children survive him, as follows, Dennis, at home; Thomas, residing at Anaconda; Daniel, Butte City; Mrs. James Marden, Mrs. James McCarthy, and Mrs. Michael McCarthy, who reside in the vicinity of Garry Owen.

The funeral was held yesterday from St. Patrick’s Church and was largely attended. Rev. Father Kelly officiated.
