Joan L. Dodds, 66, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday morning, December 5, 2019, at her home in Maquoketa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, from 4 to 7 P.M. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Joan Leona Thompson was born on October 18, 1953 in Clinton, Iowa, to Gilbert and Janet (Chapman) Thompson. She was a 1972 graduate of Lost Nation High School and then received her Associate Degree from Scott Community as an Operating Room Technician in 1976. She married Dennis Leonard Dodds on September 29, 1973 at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa.

Joan worked as an Operating Room Technician at Medical Associates in Clinton and lastly retired from the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.
She enjoyed doing crafts sewing, and shopping. She loved this time year with Christmas and decorating. She especially enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren, Brayden and Cole.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Dennis Dodds of Maquoketa, IA; daughters, Theresa (Michael) Warman of Des Moines, IA, and Amy (Eddie) Ray of Auburn, AL; 2 grandchildren, Brayden Ray and Cole Warman; brothers, Roy (Jan) Thompson of Fulton, IL, and Bruce (Sharon) Hansen of Galena, IL; and a sister, Julie (Jim) Bobitt of Forsyth, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson Rowan Ray.

In lieu of other expressions, a Joan L. Dodds memorial fund has been established.
