Obituary for Alvin Graves
Alvin F. Graves, age 65, of Green Island, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 at the Iowa City VA Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 9th, at St Johns Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa. Burial will follow at Reeseville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8th, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston.

Alvin was born September 1st, 1954, the son of Harry and Vera (Meyer) Graves, in Maquoketa, Iowa. He joined the army during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1973. That same year Alvin married Debra (Roe) Graves in Bellevue, Iowa.

Alvin was a skilled welder, and ran his own welding business. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0034, in Preston. In his spare time Alvin loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and entire family.

Alvin will be dearly missed by his wife, Debra Graves of Green Island; two sons, Jeremy (Joana) Graves of Bellevue, and Adam Graves of Preston; six grandchildren, Kelsi (Trevor) Denman, Rylee Graves, Kadin Graves, Kyson Graves, Carter Graves, and Maeley Graves; two great-grandchildren, Dawson Denman, and Laila Denman; and by his brother, Keith (Elise) Graves of Preston.

Alvin is preceded in death by two brothers; Duwayne and Calvin; sister, Diane; and by his parents.
