Maquoketa, Iowa, May 15--Valvular disease of the heart caused the death at 11:55 yesterday forenoon of Madison B. Viers, a Maquoketa veteran, at the soldiers' home hospital. Mr. Viers was a native of Iowa, having been born at Davenport, Aug. 16, 1841. He entered the home Oct. 30, 1896. He served in Company L., Second Iowa cavalry from Aug. 23, 1861 to Aug. 3, 1864. He was mustered in at Maquoketa and was discharged March 27, 1868, at Washington, D.C. Three sons, M. E., Walter and R. L. Viers, and a daughter, Miss Birdie E. Viers all of Maquoketa, survive their father.
