Maquoketa, Ia. Feb. 6--Clara E. Ellis, daughter of Wm. and Nancy (Flathers) Ellis was born in Hendricks Co., Ind. Feb. 21, 1840, and came with her parents to Jackson county, Iowa, when a small child and grew up to womanhood on her father's farm near Fulton. She was united in marriage to John Garlow, who preceded her in death several years ago. She leaves to mourn her departure three daughters, Mrs. Delos Chandler of Oxford Mills, Mrs. George Margoson of Nashville and Mrs. Frank Trout and one son Ara, of Dakota, and several grandchildren.

Mrs. Garlow was of good Revolutionary stock. Her maternal grandfather served three enlistments in the Continental army and was at the siege of Yorktown. Her father served in the Kentucky Rifles in the War of 1812 and was with General Jackson at the battle of New Orleans.

Mrs. Garlow had been ailing for several months but her condition was not considered serious until about one week age, when she began to fail very rapidly and passed away at her home on South Second street, Maquoketa about 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 1915. The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Arthur Lewis of St. Mark's Episcopal church officiating.
