Mrs. Vern (Carmen) Westphal, 60, of Maquoketa, died Sunday, November 14th at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. Services were at Carson's Funeral Home with burial in the Wyoming Cemetery.
Mrs. Westphal was born June 30, 1916 in Jackson County, the daughter of Justus and Mayme Secorah Bahnsen. She married Vern C. Westphal on June 9, 1940 in Maquoketa. She had attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She was employed as a receptionist in Dr. R. D. Gorrell's office for 16 years until she retired due to ill health. Mrs. Westphal was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Joy) Lyman of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Kenneth (Mary Lee) Lindberg of Vernon Hills, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. John (Ruth) Rohwedder of Sun City, Arizona; and two grandsons.
