21 March 1917 - The Clinton Advertiser page 4

Bellevue, Ia., March 21--Mrs. Anna Ploeger passed away at her home on South Fourth street Monday morning, after a week's illness with pneumonia. When the announcement of her death was given out it was hard to believe, as she had been the church the Sunday before in her usual health, and few had heard of her being ill. On Monday a neighbor missed her and made inquiry of the other neighbors, but none of them felt but that all was well one having seen her at nine o'clock the night before rocking herself by the light of the hard coal stove. As the day wore away the restlessness of the neighbor grew until she announced she was by some means going to know where she was before she went to bed. She and her sister went to the house and rapped and getting no response they called and heard a faint answer. They then found she was sick but got up and let them in. They made her comfortable for the night and wanted to stay with her but she insisted there was no need and she would be better in the morning. In the morning the neighbor went over and found her about the same and prepared her something to eat which she ate with a relish. She did not feel it necessary to either call the doctor or have anyone stay with her. At noon she did not relish the food prepared and about five o'clock said they might call the doctor after supper, but the neighbor did not wait but called him at once. On examination he said she was a very sick woman and could not be left alone and he sent for her daughter, who lives north of town, but her condition was not considered alarming until Sunday morning. Deceased was born at Gordon's Ferry 64 years ago last August, where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Harry Ploeger, who died in March, 1912. She is survived by two sons and one daughter. and lost three other children by death. One son and the daughter reside here and Ben at Elk Creek, Nebraska. He arrived here Tuesday to attend the funeral, which was held from St. John's Lutheran church, of which she was a faithful member, Thursday morning, and was very largely attended by old neighbors and friends. Reverend Mutchman, her pastor, conducted a short service at the house and the services at the church. Burial took place in the Lutheran cemetery south of town.
