Maquoketa, Ia., March 10--Maquoketa relatives and friends were greatly grieved Wednesday morning to learn of the sad and untimely death of Mrs. Harriet Hinman Whitfield, who passed away Tuesday evening after a very severe operation.

She was born and raised in Jackson county and was graduated from the Maquoketa High school.

In 1898 she was united in marriage to James W. Whitfield and moved to Montana about fifteen years ago.

Mrs. Whitfield was always active in charitable work and was a devout member of the Congregational church. She was a kind and loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Eleanor, two sons, Geo. and Lloyd, and four sisters, Mesdames L. L. Black and George Wendel and Miss Lulu Hinman of this city, and Mrs. O. J. Keegan of Chicago.

Mrs. Keegan and Mrs. Black were with their sister at the time of her death.
