Maquoketa, Ia., March 8--The sad word comes from Prescott, Mont., that Mrs. Harriet Hinman-Whitfield, wife of James Whitfield, passed away Tuesday evening. One telegram says "Hattie sinking. Ida here," meaning Mrs. Lawrence Black, the sister who went on from here, and was to have met another sister from Chicago, Miss Nellie Keegan, in St. Paul. It is hoped she too reached there before the end.

Mrs. Whitfield leaves besides her husband, three children, George Hinman, aged 18, William Lloyd, aged 16, and Ida Eleanor, age 11, and her sisters here Lulu, Mrs. Bessie Wendell, and Mesdames Black and Keegan, who went on, to mourn the death of a lovable bright woman. Deceased underwent an operation a week ago yesterday, from which at first she seemed to rally. She and her husband were both reared in Maquoketa and have hosts of warm friends here who are distressed at the loss.
