Dwain L. “Curly” Bruhn, age 88 of Miles, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019 at his home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the church and from 9:30 AM until the service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Curly was born on the family farm on June 26, 1931, the son of Lawrence and Lillian (Hansen) Bruhn. He graduated from Miles High School in 1949. He served with the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Korean War. Curly married Erma “Corky” Meyer on June 30, 1979 on the family farm. Curly farmed the families “Heritage Farm”, which has been in the Bruhn family for 153 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston and the Miles Lions Club, where he was presented the Melvin Jones Fellow, for dedicated humanitarian services. He served as financial secretary for the Miles American Legion for 63 years and also active with the color guard. Curly was an organizer with the Miles Threshers and was very active in the Miles community with volunteering and helping his neighbors out. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and had taken the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

Curly is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Corky (Erma) Bruhn; children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; his brother, Eugene (Faith) Bruhn of Miles; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joanne Koza; a grandson, Matthew Meyer and brothers and sisters-in-law.
