Janis Kay Waugh (1940-2019)

Janis Kay (Kemp) Waugh, 79, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at the Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. The family does welcome you to join her family and friends in memory and celebration of her life from 4 to 7 P.M. Cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no "body" present for visitation.

Janis Kay Kemp was born on June 11, 1940 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Harris John and Madge Helen (Lund) Kemp. She had one brother LaVern Harris Kemp. She grew up in the Baldwin / Maquoketa area. She went to a country schoolhouse and then attended Maquoketa schools to finish out her education. She married Kenneth Lee Waugh on November 20, 1961, later separating in 1996.

Janis was a farmer's wife and mother until moving off the farm. Once she moved to Andrew she did sewing at Pacific Coast Feather and later at ADAC Plastics as a mold operator.

Janis enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, putting puzzles together, crocheting and knitting, and going out with her best friend Nancy Baker. She loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Kenneth Lee Waugh of Maquoketa, IA; children, Cindy Kay and Larry Lee Arensdorf of Maquoketa, IA, Bruce Allan and Lori Ann (Gilmore) Waugh of Maquoketa, IA, and Douglas Lee and Peggy Lynn (Smith) Waugh of Maquoketa, IA; 7 grandchildren, Bradley Kenneth (Renae) Waugh, Mitchell Allen Waugh, Alicia Lin Arensdorf, Bethany Jan Waugh, Ashly Ann Arensdorf, Joshua J. Arensdorf, and Dalton Douglas Waugh; and 1 great-grandchild, Eloise Jo Waugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harris John Kemp and Madge Helen (Welch) Lund, a brother LaVern Harris Kemp and a granddaughter Crystal Lorraine Waugh.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Janis Kay Waugh memorial fund has been established.
