Bellevue, Ia., Jan. 18--The death of Mrs. Max Helm, which occurred at her beautiful West State street home Wednesday afternoon, to which she had moved but such a short while ago from her home on the farm, that she might have more leisure, causes not only grief to those of her immediate family and relatives, but a keen loss to a very large circle of friends, for to knew her was to feel her influence as that of a true friend. She was born in Tete des Moris township 69 years ago last October and had lived her entire life there, though they bought the home here and moved into it a year ago last spring. She spent most of her time on the old farm with her son, Charles and family. She first had enlargement of the liver and protested against having medical aid saying she could eat and sleep well, there couldn't be much the matter, being cheerful to the last. She was married twice. First to Charles Helms in 1870, who died in a few years and left her with one little daughter, and in 1875 she married a brother of her husband, Max Helm who with two sons and five daughters are left to miss her loving thoughtfulness and cheerfulness. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, from which place the funeral was held Saturday morning, with requiem high mass and burial in the Catholic cemetery beside her son, John, who died two years ago. The funeral was largely attended many coming from St. Donatus, Gordon's Ferry, LaMotte and Galena.
