Sandra Kennedy, 71, of Maquoketa, Iowa died on June 23, 2019 at approximately 12:30pm at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa Iowa.

A funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday June 27th at the First Lutheran Church of Maquoketa, Iowa. A public visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Sandra was born July 9, 1947 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Donald and Darlene (Busch) Small

She graduated Maquoketa Community High School in 1965, and graduated from Finely Hospital School of Nursing in 1968.

Married to Norman Kennedy August 4, 1968 at First Lutheran Church of Maquoketa Iowa.

Upon graduation of nursing school, Sandra worked at the Jackson County Public Hospital for approximately 10 years until she was recruited by Medical Associates of Maquoketa. Sandra worked at Medical Associates for 30 years, as both Floor Nurse and Head Nurse, before retiring in 2007.

Sandra was active in her children’s activities, including 4-H and Sunday School at the Lutheran Church. She was dedicated to helping people throughout her career including training new nurses. Sandra was also very involved in assisting her husband with his real estate business.

Sandra is survived by her husband Norman Kennedy, of Maquoketa Iowa, her 3 children Paul PJ Kennedy of Des Moines, Iowa, Patricia (Barry) Davanzo of Port Washington, New York, Patrick (Rhiannon) Kennedy of Denver Colorado and 3 grandchildren Joshua Noel of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Marisol Kennedy of Denver Colorado and Nicolena Kennedy of Denver Colorado and 1 brother, Gregory (Kimberli) Small and her beloved dog “Maggie”.

She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Darlene Small and her brother James Small.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County.

During the past 7 years of Sandra’s life she battled with Alzheimer’s. During the last 4 ½ years Sandra was a Crestridge and was cared for by many of the same people she had either trained or cared for earlier in her life. Thank you to the staff at Crestridge and the staff and volunteers at Hospice of Jackson County.
